Computers Can Be so Fun…

Posted by GenX on 11 July, 2008

I don’t think I have ever had so many problems with a single computer, as I’ve had in the past few weeks. Mobo replacements, memory exchanges, registry purges; and Windows didn’t enjoy anything I was doing. An awful thing to love computers so much, and it not be reciprocated ;) So I’ve decided to go ahead with a new comp build, and finally (after a very long time of avoiding it) move to Debian.

Anyways…. With all that said, it’s why I haven’t posted the 2nd part of my take on stewardship yet again. But, it’ll be coming soon enough now that I’m up and running again! \o/

Besides battling with evil Windows, and crazy gremlins in my machine; I had a fun-filled week of receiving roof damage to my place from last week’s hellish storm, my boyfriend arguing with my over piercings and nail polish (yes, you heard that right, piercings and nail polish… apparently my take on style is as whack as they come, folks), and my truck alarm firing off three times in the middle of the night… on three different occasions… for no flippin’ reason… which in return drove the neighbors absolutely crazy (can’t say I blame them though).

Good news though… in the same week, Rhapsody FINALLY fixed my music account that’s been going nutty off and on for a few months now (I REALLY love my music), I’m getting a new motorcycle (yippee!!!), and one of my best friends is getting married. Oh, and I saw my godson for the first time in two years, and he looks like a mini version to Tiger Woods, literally. Cute as a button I tell you!!

‘Til next time….

….but in the mean time…. why don’t yah go mozy on over to my blog buddy on “The Tide Is Turning” — she always has something great to say!

Yea, my puters aren’t liking me very much these days, especially this particular one that started flaking out on me a few weeks ago.

…sigh… computers are my enemy, and yet they’re my friend. How is that supposed to pan out? :) And yea, I agree, for the exception of two of my comps, I run Linux on all of them, but these two — especially my most fav that I’m on now, is well overdue for an overhaul and switch to a Linux system, which is why I’m finally going to make that move to Debian.

  3. I know Windows XP has big problems its TOO bad most people run Windows.
The first time I installed Linux was from files downloaded from Debian
to create Bootable Floppies. Windows needs rawwrite to convert files to
    boot disks. I LIKE Debian!

I agree with you, Willy. Debian, and anything Linux for that matter, is glorious in comparison. Windows itself has some serious flaws — but on the topic of XP — its biggest flaw has always been security, but Vista (which one of my machines used for a while to test out) was absolutely the worst thing Microsoft EVER has come up with. It overcompensated for XP’s security problems and failed miserably.

IF people just *have* to have a Windows OS that is still supported (if even for a while), the best option is XP (though it’s going bye-bye soon), but even then I wouldn’t recommend it. Linux based is the best, hands down, but if you don’t know what the heck you are doing with Linux software, I recommend a Mac… period. Far more secure, far more stable, and a good way to go if you don’t know how to handle a GNU based OS.

    Thanks for dropping by, WB!
